Clean Windows

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) have the opportunity to clean the Ward Buildings. This week we had our turn and I washed the windows. I just wanted you to see how clean all the windows are in the building. It is good to give service and it makes you feel good!!!

Grant and I finished this puzzle this morning. All except on piece. Can you see where it it missing? I felt bad because we had borrowed it from a friend and it had never been opened. After I took it apart, I found the piece that was missing. Oh Happy Day.

Grant is not a big game person, but I have found something that he seems to love to do. We have spent most of the day doing this puzzle. It has taken over the computer room. I love it. I think we will be doing more of them together.

I am trying to keep my hands busy in the evening, so I borrowed a couple of puzzles from a friend of mine. I enjoyed putting it together. I have never been a puzzle person but now I think I will be.
I also gave up caffeine free diet coke. I just think that I need to do that, no problems just don't think it is good for me. Also made some new goals today to improve my life.
1. Read the scriptures daily. (I am good for a while and then I seem to drop off.
2. Kathryn will like this one--Stay for Relief Society
3. No more diet coke.
4. Go to bed earlier than 3:00 am
5. Get up earlier than 9:00 am
Now you know all the things that I do wrong!! I really think that there are more but these are the ones that I am going to work on.

I think that this is so well done! I would love it myself! Grant is a perfectionist. This is the first thing that he has ever made. I am amazed at his ability. I know that Morgan will love this because her grandfather made it for her. He has to make the hutch that goes on top of the desk, but I wanted to put pictures up on my blog.

When Grant I went to Salt Lake City for his doctor's appointment. It was so coooold that the windshield washer fluid froze to the window, so we couldn't use it. We would have to wait for a truck to go by us or wait till we stopped for gas. Fun huh!!! It was a great trip though. We stayed with Grant's sister and had a nice visit. The doctor told Grant that he was doing great!!! That was worth the trip!!!!!

42 years ago on New Year's Eve. I met the Love of my Life. We had a blind date for the New Year's Eve Dance at the Fallon Stake Center. I can't tell how wonderful my life has been and how blessed I am to have him for an Eternal Companion.

One of America's most famous images, a painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware River, got much of the story wrong: The American commander wouldn't have stood triumphantly on a rowboat in daylight, but on a ferry bracing himself against a fierce snowstorm on Christmas night.

That's the historic scene depicted in a new painting that goes on display this week at the New York Historical Society museum in Manhattan.

'No one in his right mind would have stood up in a rowboat in that weather,' artist Mort Kunstler said. 'It would have capsized.'

New version: New York artist Mort Kuntsler's painting, titled Washington's Crossing: McKonkey's Ferry, Dec. 26, 1776, debuts on Monday

He told The Associated Press that he's 'not knocking the original' - the well-known 1851 painting by German-born artist Emanuel Leutze, who Kunstler says 'was glorifying Washington using what he knew at the time.'

But Kunstler said his new piece is aimed at righting the historical mistakes.

Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware from Pennsylvania to New Jersey to mount a surprise attack on Hessian forces at the Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776.

The Americans killed 22 Hessians, wounded 98 and captured nearly 900 while losing only three of their own men.

The Hessians were hired by the British to fight against the American rebels in the Revolutionary War.

CANDY APPLE CAKE FOR CHRISTMAS

When the boys were little we would make these Candy Apple Cakes and take them around to friends. It was so much fun. Except we came home on one Christmas Eve to find the fire department on our door step and the boys on the front lawn. It turn out better than it looked and it scared Grant and I to death.. Just some smoke damage and we had to have those big fans cleaning the smoke out of the house. Needless to say, even those can be good memories. Jake got Blackie out of the house and both boys ran to the neighbors when the smoke alarm went off. As we were delivering cakes today, we thought of those good time with our boys delivering Candy Apple Cakes.

This year I started something new. I put all my change in the jar and saved it for Christmas. I heard about this from the Suze Orman Show. I did real well, then in September I stopped spending a lot of money, so needless to say, not so much change. But when I took it down to Walmart and put it in the change machine. Surprise!!! I got $149.71!!! I have talked Grant into doing it with me this year, so we will see how much we collect together. By the way, the jar was full of nickels, dimes and quarter. I saved my pennies and I am giving them to the Primary Medical Center in SLC.

It has been primed, sanded and primed again. Now it will be sanded and then painted white. I think that it will be sanded and painted about 3 times to finish it. I wish you could see it in person. Grant is doing an awesome job on this for Morgan. I want one now!! But I will have to wait in line as the twins and daughter-in-law are in line. I am grateful that Grant has somewhere to work and some projects to work on. As the winters are long and cold. Thank goodness for his shop!

I love it that it has sliders that when you shut the drawers, they kinda lock, so you have to pull them out. Grant didn't spare any expense on the sliders.

Grant has to build the two little drawers on top and trim it out.

Put the legs on it, paint it and put the hardware on it and then it will look like this.

When we saw this picture of this dog laying by the casket of his owner. Grant said that ought to be the picture of the year!!
They say that a dog is a man's best friend, and for Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson, 35, and his beloved and loyal dog Hawkeye, not even death could break this powerful bond.
During the funeral for US Navy SEAL, Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan earlier this month, his dog Hawkeye is shown lying next to his casket on the floor.

Uncle Harvey and his son Larry.

Uncle Harvey was my favorite uncle, he was my father's brother. He was two years older than my father. He lived out on the Austin Hwy. He was the best uncle anyone could ever have. I loved going over to his dairy and helping him feed the cows. I have such fond memories of him. I loved him so much. He died when I was 15 years old of lung cancer. He had married Cecily Golden and they had three children, Larry, Louise and Kristina. He didn't get married until he was in his forties. Harvey always had a story or joke for you. I just found the talk that was given at his funeral by Max Conrad. Max said that Harvey was loved by everyone in the valley that knew him.

Today my iMac came and I plugged it in and called Mary a couple of times to figure it out. I still have lots to learn but I am learning. I just wanted you to see the difference in my old computer and the new 27 inch iMac. It certainly is bigger and clearer. Once I learn it and Grant learns it we will take the older computer down.

Last week I went down and took care of these sweet young ladies, while their parents went to Hawaii. Morgan, Madison and Makelle were good. I couldn't believe I didn't have to tell them anything. Each morning they got up and did their chores, practiced the piano, and played with their dog. Jake and Allie are doing a great job raising these girls. I loved spending the time with them and seeing how much they have developed into young ladies!!!

My friend, Donna is moving to Boise, Idaho to be closer to her daughters. I don't blame her, but I will sure miss here. We have been friends since we were 15 years old. Now that is a long time!!!! I will see her at least every three months when she comes down to Fallon to go to her doctor. We have the same doctor in Reno and we make our appointments one right after the other. So it will always be a day trip to Reno and Applebee's.

Last night it started snow/raining, then it turned to snow. It was a very heavy snow. As you can see it broke several limbs from our trees. I really thought that this was the first day of Spring. I guess we are in for winter for a few more days.

I have a couple of friends that call me GG, that stands for Gadget Girl. That is right I am the gadget girl. I love my new iPad2!!!!

I ordered in online from Apple, but had to wait two to three weeks to get it.

So I went to Walmart Saturday afternoon and they had one (1) left. So I ran home and cancelled my online order and went back to Walmart and got it.

She (checker) said that they only got three of them in and some guy from Reno had driven down and bought two of them. Wouldn't you know it, I got that last one. Lucky me!!! By the way, I have been waiting over six months to buy the iPad2.

It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45-caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David 0'Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest.

In the western United States, ice fog is commonly known as pogonip. It occurs very rarely during cold winter spells, usually in deep mountain valleys. Ice fog can be quite common in interior and northern Alaska, since the temperature frequently drops below -40 °C (-40 °F) in the winter months. Pogonip only forms under specific conditions, the humidity has to be near 100% as the air temperature drops to well below 0 °C (32 °F), allowing ice crystals to form in the air. The ice crystals will then settle onto surfaces.

The name pogonip is an English adaptation of the Shoshone word meaning "cloud" (payinappih). The English-speaking settlers who encountered this unpleasant and sometimes scary phenomenon when they went out West in the 1800s needed a word for it and they borrowed it from local populations.
Supposedly, western Native Americans called it "frozen death" because it took so many lives from upper respiratory infections.

Famous ‘shoe tree’ chopped down by dastardly vandals

Nevada's landmark shoe tree -- a spot where travelers on "the loneliest road in America" have stopped for decades to deposit their boots, sneakers, pumps and even roller blades -- is rumored to have come into being years ago after a quarreling couple tossed each others' shoes into the 70-foot cottonwood tree on their wedding night. Others, for some reason, felt compelled to follow suit, and soon a full-fledged phenomenon was born.

I have listen, read and now have seen it on national news. I know that I am in a minority, but It is a Tree!! I know that who ever cut down the tree shouldn't have done it. We have driven by that tree a hundred times and I thought that it was just ugly, but tourists and kids love it.
The Associated Press reports that the Middlegate, Nevada, shoe tree was cut down late Thursday or early Friday and that "fresh sawdust was found on the snow" by authorities. A memorial for the tree will be held by local residents on Feb. 13.
I won't be going to the memorial!!!

Grant and I spent Christmas in Spanish Fork, Utah with his sister and niece.

We had a great time, plenty of good food and great visits. We were able to visit with Tom and Shannon. It is always good to get home. There is no place like home!

Grant and I stayed up to watch the Lunar Eclipse. I should say Grant stayed up, it was way past his bedtime. This hasn't happen for 372 years and I am sure that we will not be alive when the next one comes in 2094. These pictures were taken with a 12.2 pixels and 5x optical zoom, just a small camera.
